Students
attending the 2020 Vision and Technology
Leadership Forum will participate in the Opening General
Session and the noon luncheon and keynote in addition to a
morning and afternoon educational session presented by the UNK
Telecommunications department. (Conference schedule and exact times to be announced.)
The morning educational session, conducted by Dr. Ron Tuttle, will feature an in-depth
overview of current Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology through the
newly implemented Frontier VoIP Laboratory recently donated by Frontier
Communications to the Telecommunications Management program at UNK.
The purpose of this session is to demonstrate
how VoIP is implemented in data networks and how it operates on the
network. This session will provide the
opportunity for students to experience VoIP in a hands-on environment.
The afternoon educational session, conducted by Dr. Tim Obermier, will feature two
educational sessions. First, Mike
Farrell, Account Manager at Nortel, will feature a new multimedia server designed
to facilitate more media rich content via the web. This session will lend insight to the future
of data networks.
Secondly students will
be provided with an overview of the opportunities that are available in
telecommunications to students in Nebraska and what students will need to do in order to obtain one of these new and exciting
positions. Demand for quality college graduates
with an understanding of data networking and management of a business is
rapidly increasing.
During the event students in the Telecommunications
Management program at UNK will serve as hosts to the participating high school
or middle school students.
